Yossarian and the men in his squadron are pilots who go on missions in hope of going home. Yossarian and the other men do all that they can do to be grounded and not go on missions. Some claim to be mentally or physically ill. There is a lot of humor in the book. I've noticed that when a person is talking and complaining about something they express the same thing they are complaining about. For example, Doc Daneeka yells about people complaining, but then he will complain about his own misfortunes while he is yelling at them. Another example is Chief White Halfoat who talks about Indian discrimination, but in the same sentence he says racial slurs about African Americans, Mexicans, and Chinese. I've also learned what Catch-22 means, if a person claims to be insane he really can't be because a sane person would always want to be grounded instead of going on missions.
